Summary

Designs new products and makes improvements to existing products in the car carrier and wrecker truck body vocation. Evaluates products, parts, or processes for cost efficiency and reliability and ensure project completion. Works with other members of the engineering staff to ensure that production is completed in a timely manner.  Also works with manufacturing in a fabrication, weld shop, and assembly line environment.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following and other duties may be assigned:

  • Use computer-based tools and programs to design components for towing equipment.
  • Assist with the creation of documents which detail the specifications for each product.
  • Follow plans to develop product and model prototypes that can be tested in a variety of situations.
  • Make recommendations to improve the design and efficiency of the model.
  • Analyze designs to make sure they meet the necessary requirements and specifications.
  • Evaluate whether a product is safe or practical in its current design.
  • Identify production or performance problems and find ways to minimize costs where possible.
  • Provide manufacturing design related support.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

 

  • Manufacturing Processes - Knowledge of the existing and planned approaches and methods for manufacturing products or product components.
  • Product Development in Manufacturing - Knowledge of methodologies, tools and techniques for designing, building and managing the manufacture of new products.
  • Product Design Life Cycle - Knowledge of the methodology and associated phases, activities and deliverables for the design of new products and the enhancement of existing products; ability to apply the methodology in diverse scenarios.
  • Product Development Life Cycle - Knowledge of the methodology and associated phases, activities and deliverables for manufacturing new or enhancing existing products.
  • Product Testing - Ability to design, plan and execute testing strategies and tactics to ensure product quality at all stages of manufacturing.
  • Engineering – Manufacturing - Knowledge and associated ability to apply technical, scientific and mathematical knowledge to design and implement materials, structures, machines, devices, systems and processes that safely realize a desired objective or invention.
  • Ability to perform Structural Analysis (FEA) would be


Education and Work Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and preferably 2-5 years related experience and/or training.
  • Experience using Creo or SolidWorks CAD programs.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Products.
